Lindani Myeni (29)
1992 - April 14, 2021
Lindani was born in Esikhawini Township, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. He was a descendant of Zulu royalty and a rugby player. Days before Lindani's death, his wife said that the couple received life-changing news when it was revealed to him that he was a Zulu prince of his hometown in South Africa. She said that he was looking forward to accepting his new role and returning home to help his community. On the night of April 14, 2021, Lindani, a husband and father of two young children, was fatally shot by three Honolulu police officers on his way to the public temple. He may have confused someone’s home he entered for the temple, according to his wife, Lindsay Myeni. He was unarmed.“He was gentle and loving and the best father and husband I could’ve asked for. There’s no reason this should have happened. I’m white and I guarantee he would not have been shot had he been white. It's just hard for me to even accept that he's not going to walk through the door right now.” his wife said. His death had drawn international attention. Lindani’s body was brought back to South Africa and he was laid to rest in a live streamed service.
