Soon Chung Park (74)
1947 - March 16, 2021
Soon Chung immigrated to the US 40 years ago as a widow, leaving behind her 5 children in South Korea. Between the late 90’s and early 2000’s, her four daughters and son were finally able to join their mother in the US. Soon Chung worked tirelessly 9am to 9pm to keep up with relentless bills. She worked a variety of jobs including at delis, restaurants, jewelry store, farm, spas. In 2018, Soon Chung got married to Gwangho Lee and started working at Gold Spa. The couple’s house remains adorned with some of Soon Chung’s favorite items: towering sunflowers, cactuses, succulent plants, Korean orchids, ceramic owls, champagne and bottles of one of her favorite wines. Her husband says he hasn’t been able to sleep by himself in the empty house that he once shared with his wife. “She was young in spirit — like a kid who couldn’t stay still, always so bubbly,” he said. Her husband Gwangho Lee, whose home country in South Korea has strict gun policies, said the sight of firearms in the U.S. are particularly disturbing.
